AI For Beginners: Everything You Need to Know

Don't be intimidated by artificial intelligence!

It might seem complicated, but getting started with AI is easier than you think. You don't need any special technical skills or math knowledge. The key is to jump in and start experimenting. This guide will provide you with the basics you need to begin your AI journey.

First off, it might be a good idea to start with a new E-mail address. Something easy you can remember associated with AI as there will be a lot of tools and free subscriptions to sign up for.

There are so many tools and options available, it can make your head spin. So try these first:

  • ChatGPT is the original and widely regarded as the top of the line in LLMs. It has several different models to choose from, depending on your use case and budget. But for now, just try the free version and get your feet wet.

  • When you run out of free daily credits (it's easy to do), sign up for Claude next. Sonnet 3.5 is widely regarded as the next best model to ChatGpt 01-preview and is excellent at natural conversation and coding, if that's your thing.

  • Finally, the centre-piece to your AI collection should be Perplexity. Known as the ultimate research tool, PPLX is a wrapper that can make use of several different models and employs it's own algorithm to search the web. AKA, the Google Killer. Also, you can use it all day in free mode. You can't find a better deal than that. (Pro-tip: PPLX PRO gives you acccess to Claude 3.5 Sonnet!)

Master the Art of Prompting

Prompt engineering is the most crucial skill for any AI user. It's the art of crafting clear and specific instructions that guide the AI to produce the desired results. Here are some tips for writing effective prompts:

  • Be specific: Clearly state what you want the AI to do.

  • Break it down: For complex tasks, divide them into smaller, more manageable steps.

  • Use precise language: Avoid ambiguity and use words that accurately convey your intent.

Understanding AI's Strengths and Limits

AI is a powerful tool, but it's important to understand its capabilities and limitations:

  • Know what AI can do: AI excels at tasks like generating text, translating languages, and creating images.

  • Recognize its limitations: AI can sometimes produce inaccurate or biased information. Always double-check its outputs, especially for important matters.

  • Refine your results: AI is an iterative process. Experiment with different prompts and approaches to get the best results.

Best Practices for AI Beginners

  • Start simple: Begin with basic prompts and gradually increase complexity as you gain confidence.

  • Use templates and examples: Explore online resources for pre-made prompts and examples to get started.

  • Embrace trial and error: Don't be afraid to experiment with different approaches and learn from your mistakes.

Safety and Ethical Considerations

  • Verify information: Always fact-check information generated by AI, especially for important decisions.

  • Protect your privacy: Avoid sharing sensitive personal information with AI tools.

  • Be mindful of bias: AI models can reflect biases present in the data they were trained on. Be critical of outputs and consider potential biases.

Mastery of Basic LLMs is your gateway to unlimited knowledge.

Once you have explored the options and settled on a favourite set of tools, you will find there isn't much that you can't learn. Coding was once only for the hard-core nerds and the hygienically challenged. Now, with only a rudimentary knowledge you can start creating your own software with AI. That's just one example.

ChatGPT medical diagnostic is incredibly effective, if not ideal. Getting time in front of a doctor isn't easy these days, but at least you can consult with AI and educate yourself in the meantime.

Literally anything that is on the internet can be broken down, summarized and broken into digestible chunks. And all you have to do is ask AI how to do it.

The best way to learn AI is by doing. Choose a tool, experiment with different prompts and join online communities to connect with other AI enthusiasts. Numerous free resources and tutorials are available online to help you enhance your skills. Embrace the learning process, and you'll be amazed by what you can achieve with AI.
